I refer to the letter MPs should crossover for good of electorate.


I am indeed glad to know that the writer who responded to my letter regarding crossovers of MPs to form the government, is British, as I had expected, hence my reference to the Blair/ Brown fiasco though my reference to America was to educate readers on the various types of government's, including dictatorships.

It pleases me to know that we have many foreigners who like to live in Malaysia , marrying Malaysians and also making it their home for various reasons.

It also pleases me to know that we finally find a Westerner (I am guessing here) that believes that democracy can be practiced in many ways, contrary to the democracy we are constantly reminded by our ‘democratic’ rulers in the West.

It also gives me great pleasure to see that our ‘masters of democracy’ give us lessons in democracy, and then be prepared to change the rules when the times require it.

The West has a liking for Asia-bashing when it suits them and closes an eye when it involves countries which are as powerful as them. Will the writer tell me why, nobody has told Putin nor Russia how to run their affairs ?

They are attacking Georgia today, surely there must be some comments on democratic concerns for the land they are fighting for. After all the West crucified China over Tibet. And Iran is rushing to get the bomb, no prizes for why they want one.

So you see my fellow Malaysian citizen, you don't change the rules when the game is being played, and that is why we have a constitution, and a parliament to discuss these issues and what the country needs next.

Your representative has been chosen as he represents the party the people want and their principles of good governance, whether he may be Abdullah or Najib or whoever. Only his party can throw him out, and if they don't, than that’s it, the party has decided, and the members concur. Period.

The people have voted, the majority has decided, whatever the outcome. Your view of things as a silent majority is not the view of the people who voted on March 8. Majority is majority.

If this is not respected than we might as well not have elections - just get the sitting MPs to decide who forms the next government.

What do I tell my children what democracy is all about? Crossovers? They will be afraid to vote, as in some countries, candidates were even known to be gangsters and mafia types. We embraced the party system and so be it, we will practice the party system.

Lastly, the writer has failed to recognise that there was no vote or mandate officially given to Anwar Ibrahim to be the opposition leader. His wife was, he was de facto, and now without the consensus of the various parties nor party elections, nor even a council, declared himself PM-in-waiting.

At least the Barisan Nasional has a supreme council, what does our government-in-waiting have? A 50 sen petrol price reduction, control over the same police force it condemns, party members who misbehave and take the law into their own hands etc etc.

No man an island, and we know not who he surrounds himself with. By the time we do, we might well regret it if we did not have a right to choose.

By the way I am Malaysian, lived during the colonial era, and know enough to tell you what you have missed.

With sincere feelings towards a fellow Malaysian, be it a new generation Malaysian or a fifth generation Malaysian, me and my fellow Malaysians welcome you and all peoples who want to be Malaysians if they can, but we follow the rules of a budding democracy.

Colonisation has ended, we are not perfect, we we are learning the right to choose. Let’s not change the rules for we are still a young and learning democracy.
