I find DAP national chairperson Lim Kit Siang's statement that the arrest of a student, Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainuddin, under the Internal Security Act (ISA) may be linked to the Dewan Tunku Canselor fire, deplorable. I had expected Saudara Lim to be more vigilant about making insinuations especially when the issue of life and liberty of the young man is at stake.

I believe the Fire Department had already made its report to the minister concerned. The fact that there is no rush to the press by the minister about the probable causes of the fire may well mean that all speculations by BN politicians about blaming every student is unfounded.

Suhakam commissioner Anuar Zainal Abidin's statement about Khairul knowing what he did, does not provide any justification for a preventive detention law to be used against the student or anybody else.

What exactly did the young man do that threatens national security? He was alleged to be at a gathering protesting the ISA, a law which had been ruled as archaic by the Shah Alam High Court in May.
