The erudite sophistries of your reader I Samuel's 'An Islamic state is a state of democracy' (July 3) contribute no practical value to the current public debate and controversy between PAS and DAP on formation or rejection of the Islamic state in respect to which the public seek understanding.

By the writer's standard of Islamic democracy:

1) "Neither Umno nor PAS is Islamic. Their dogmatic and partisan politics totally disqualifies them."

2)"All the so-called Islamic states of the world today are secular states, which are using Islam as a means of promoting a reactionary secularism."

3) The Islamic state (the writer's version of "multi-religiosity and multi-racialism") may, according to him "be achieved within a modern national boundary, but ultimately, it has to spread to cover the whole world".

Not likely I think. As there is no such Islamic states has, according to the writer, been achieved in the world at this moment, even after many thousand years of human history and civilisation, it is more likely to be a Utopia existing only in the hereafter in the next world!

So much for rational discourse!
