Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong says it again!

The newspaper report suggesting that he was involved in a sex scandal with a student from China was false.

“There is no sex scandal. It was the imagination of the newspaper. It is too much, enough is enough,” Bernama quoted him as saying.

Wee, who is MCA Youth secretary-general, said he was disappointed at how the report was published since there were no grounds linking him with any sex scandal.

“My conscience is clear. It is not a sex scandal. The parents (of the student) came to us asking for help and we helped her to get back the money after she was cheated (by someone)”, he said.

According to Wee, the student's father, Wu Hong Chun, had sought help from the MCA Public Service and Complaints Department back in 2002.

Following that, Wee checked with the relevant parties and found out that the intake offer letter for the student was fake.

It turns out that Wu had been cheated by someone using the name of a foundation purportedly to accept money for his daughter's education.

Wee said the foundation said it was not involved when the scam was exposed and subsequently sent a letter to Wu saying that it could not do anything as it did not receive the money at all.

The deputy minister also referred to the SMS that has been circulated by a man known as ‘Chong’ stating, "Countdown 90 days - Dr Wee Ka Siong will resign from all the posts by 20.10.2008, just as Dr Chua" and made no reference to any sex scandal at all.

“The man identified as 'Chong' did not even mention about a sex scandal in the SMS. It is obviously clear. However they (the newspaper) sensationalised the issue” he added.

The SMS, in circulation since July 22, said that Wee would resign from all his posts by October 20.

Out to victimise me

Wee added that he did not like to be linked with former health minister and MCA vice-president Dr Chua Soi Lek who had stepped down following a sex scandal.

Whoever was trying to draw such conclusion was only out to victimise me, he said.

Wee noted that he was in the process of taking legal action to clear his name.

Meanwhile, Johor police chief DCP Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said police were investigating the matter and that he had directed the Johor CID chief Senior Assistant Comm II Amer Awal to wrap up the investigation as soon as possible and forward the report to the deputy public prosecutor.

Mohd Mokhtar also said that the case had been classified under criminal defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
