Ex-bachelor DAP deceived into marriage
The writer said in relation to Karpal Singh's tirade against PAS and Keadilan, "As a member and beneficiary of BA, DAP should learn to behave like a responsible married man who always think thrice before he opens his mouth to his spouse."
To carry the home-spun analogy further, what is the 'married man' supposed to do if he finds out that his wife has made a fundamental misrepresentation of her position that he relied upon as a basis to marry her in the first place?
What happens if before marriage she represented to him that he could have all personal freedom of movement or 'personal liberty' but immediately after marriage she demands that he stops consumption of alcohol in his favourite pub, stops his occasional gambling in the Genting casino, and in fear that he might ogle at the next woman, even demands that he queues in a supermarket line only when there is no woman in it?
Hasn't he the right to make a public grouse or even seek divorce?
The heart of the problem is fundamental misrepresentation. It goes to the root of your spouse's character - that of honesty, or to use a more fashionable word, 'transparency' of intentions.
At the inception of the Barisan Alternatif, as declared in the manifesto, no intention was evinced on the part of PAS and Keadilan to form the Islamic state.
Had such an intention been stated at the outset, bachelor DAP would have the option whether to enter into this political marriage.
Instead DAP was led into it and confronted with this new condition (Islamic state) now. What is 'he' to do - reverse his status? 'He' has already been discredited in the eyes of - and lost - all his past 'girl friends' (DAP's traditional constituencies) in entering, or rather being misled, into this misalliance by this misrepresentation of a spouse that isn't what she appears to be.
I am still laughing.
