This is the suggestion made by PPP president M Kayveas today.
The former deputy minister said the proposal by PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat that PAS and Umno be dissolved was a logical proposal but it needed to be extended to all BN component parties.
"In Malaysia, there is no need to have several parties, just have a BN party, and Pakatan Rakyat, and PPP agrees with the proposal by 'Tok Guru' (Nik Aziz)," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Three days ago, Nik Aziz, who is also Kelantan menteri besar, proposed that PAS and Umno be dissolved and a single party based on Islam be formed.
However, Kayveas said the PAS-Umno merger would only solve Malay unity and the issue
of Islam but a BN party would resolve inter-racial and inter-religious issues as well.
On DAP's dissatisfaction with PAS' proposal for Umno and PAS to dissolve and form one party, Kayveas suggested that DAP merge with PKR to form a new party.
Info minister wants to set an example
In another development, Information Ahmad Shabery Cheek said no one had pressured him into deciding not to contest any post in the Umno Supreme Council in December’s party polls.
He said he did not want to be seen as using his position as the minister of information to promote himself through agencies under the ministry such as Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), the Special Affairs Department (JASA) and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).
He said he also wanted to set an example for staff of the ministry, that none of them should be seen using their advantage and position to engage in political contests.
"I am sticking to my decision not to contest a post in the supreme council in the coming elections. There is no pressure. I want to be an example.
"If I, as a minister, am not contesting, not using my position ... the people under me can also follow my example," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Ahmad Shabery reminded his ministry staff not to contest senior positions in the Umno elections for fear that others would see them as using their position as an advantage.
