I read with sadness the outcome of the MCA EGM on the Nanyang Press takeover. However, the delegates have decided that the takeover of the Nanyang is desirable. Now, it is their duty to explain their rationale to the people, whom they have to face by 2004.

As for the so-called 'Gang of Eight', they have indeed fought for what they thought was right. The worst thing that can happen now, as everybody fears, is a 'witch-hunt' by the victors. The party president has to prove his sincerity in wanting to close ranks and ensure that the party is united once again.

Ultimately, it is the people who will decide whether the takeover is acceptable.
