I am very disappointed with our prime minister for attacking the previous owner of Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press. I do not expect a leader of a country to behave in such a way. If I were to criticise our leaders openly, would I be at risk of being detained under the ISA?

Contrary to Dr Mahathir Mohamad's opinion, I do not see anything wrong with the reports published in the newspapers. After all, the duty of these two dailies is to report the facts to the public, in fairness to both governing body and opposition party.

What does Mahathir mean by "unfavourable reporting"? That any bad reports about Barisan Nasional will be considered 'unfavourable'?

If BN has done nothing wrong and has nothing to hide, why is it so worried about these reports? It seems that even a minimal freedom of speech is not allowed in Malaysia.

The media should be allowed to report what they deem fit and there should no be restriction on what they can report. Or does our leader want to see only good reports on BN and all bad ones on the opposition? We have seen a 'good example' of such a newspaper, which is The Star. While I admit to reading the paper, I skip the news section because this MCA-owned daily does not even give fair coverage to parties within BN, let alone the opposition parties. I only read the sports section and the rest is irrelevant to me.

The consequences of MCA owning the two Chinese dailies are going to be severe. The Internet is always my source. I believe we are good enough to judge what is right and what is wrong. The powers-that-be who want to control what the media can report, make me very sick.

No matter what the outcome is after the EGM today, the fact remains the same - we Chinese do not want these two dailies controlled by MCA.
