Referring to the news 'Umno delegates call for jihad against the 'evil' PAS' (June 22), I wish to express my dislike of the use of the word 'jihad' in the context of political propaganda. I see no reason why one must hurt others and shed their blood so as to uphold the integrity of one's belief and ideology.

If the ultimate goal of a religion is to bring peace and happiness to all the living beings, why must Yan Umno division head Badaruddin Amirudin want to hurt someone in the name of his religion? Does not God forbid him to do that, let alone hurting the people of the same religion (Hiraba)? Will the people of other faiths find peace or be spared when he assumes power one day?

People like him spread no good word about Islam; instead, for selfish, egoistic reasons of his, he tarnishes the image of the religion.

I am barely 15 years of age but at least I am able to distinguish the sacred from the profane. Religion is seen as sacred, on the other hand, politics is known to be 'dirty'. By proclaiming 'jihad' with a political motif, Badaruddin shows how insincere he is.

Ignorant people like him is not fit to represent the masses, let alone profess to be a Muslim.
