PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is set to address the biggest rally the state has seen on July 26.

About 7,000 to 8,000 people are expected to attend the event to be held outside the state PKR headquarters in Jalan Matang in Kuching.

pkr keadilan sarawak 170406 dominique ngState PKR chief Dominique Ng said the party is in the process of applying for a police permit for the event.

Ng also said Anwar will speak at a 100-table dinner gathering the same night, while a seminar will be held on the theme ‘Vision of a new Malaysia’.

“Our struggle will continue, and we believe we will achieve our objective to form the new federal government (by Sept 16),” he said.

On a separate development, Ng urged the authorities to adopt a humane approach in conducting evictions, while advising those affected to respect the law.

He said this after receiving a message from Bintulu-based NGOs that government agencies had mobilised police personnel and land and survey officers from Kuching to demolish Kayan and Kenyah farmhouses near the main Bakun road.

Some 20 trucks, bulldozers and excavators were deployed. The enforcement team was confronted by settlers when it arrived at the scene this morning, but proceeded with the demolition.

It is learnt that the authorities had issued eviction notices to the occupants - several hundred families - of farmhouses located on a site stretching from Bakun to Tubau.

The area has been leased to Sibu-based timber conglomerate KTS Group for oil palm plantation. The land is also required for installation of overhead cables for the Bakun dam project.

“The leader of a local NGO told me a short while ago that government agencies have received orders to carry out the demolition over the next three days,” he said.

Chiew also said Barisan Nasional representatives should work with native peoples to resolve issues linked to native customary rights land.
