I have been following the Nanyang takeover episode really closely because I am a faithful reader of Nanyang Siang Pau.

I appreciate the courage and dignity of the previous board of editors in Nanyang Press as they have truly demonstrated their professionalism.

I applaud the journalists in Nanyang Press for publishing issues we, the Chinese community wants to know. I applaud them for being sensitive to the feelings of the community.

I just went through the latest news published in Sin Chew online and came across a very interesting statement from the MCA Wanita chief.

She had said: "The Chinese community objects the takeover due to the lack of confidence in MCA but if MCA were to give up the takeover, then where is the dignity of the party?"

She even questioned, "Is the Chinese community leading MCA or is MCA leading the Chinese community?"

I was so upset of how our current leaders think. To them, we are their servants and they are superior. We should be thankful for having them to lead us - brainless followers - and also be thankful and show our support for every decision they make. Is it true?

I think politicians in our country have lost their sense of role as representatives of the people. We elect them to represent us in order to voice out and discuss issues which affect us. We elect them and empower them to run the country for our good, the rakyat's.

In other words, they are nothing but another member of the rakyat, whom we have elected to represent us and form a government. We, the rakyat pay them to run the country through taxes.

In business terms, we are the board of directors and we hire the politicians to run the business on our behalf.

How could the Wanita chief pose such a question to the people who elected her? As a party which claims to represent the Chinese community, whatever decision made has to come after a survey or consultation with the community.

Furthermore, there are only 40 members in the MCA central committee. How far can they represent the views of the entire community?

To me, most of them only support their so-called leader, and not the deal itself. If they cannot even handle basic problems faced by the community, what makes them think they can run a well-established newspaper?

For the coming EGM, I hope those delegates "representing" us - the Chinese community - will make a thorough survey and collect the necessary information from the people they represent before attending the meeting.

Please continue or for once, truly represent those who have elected and empowered you with such heavy responsibility to deliver the message at the EGM.

To all those politicians out there, bear in mind, you serve the rakyat.. We do not need to plead or beg you. We merely need to convey our 'orders' to you. And we will kick you out of power if we feel that you are no longer representing us.

To the rakyat, select your representatives wisely be it parliamentarians or party representatives. Make sure he or she truly represents you and not himself or herself.

Don't put your votes based on which political party he or she is from, if there is an independent candidate who can truly represent the voice of the community, by all means, vote for that person instead.
