Umno supreme council members were tightlipped on what transpired during their two-hour meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre which ended at 5.30pm.

shahrir samad When approached, even the usually friendly Shahrir Samad held his tongue, and told reporters to refer their questions to party president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

One by one the supreme council members filed out, walking briskly towards Dewan Merdeka where the president was due to speak to divisional leaders at a special briefing.

But neither Shahrir, Sharizat Abdul Jalil, Tengku Adnan Mansor nor Muhd Muhammad Taib stopped to entertain the journalists eager for details.

abdullah ahmad badawi pak lah 110907 It was rumoured that Abdullah was due to make two important announcements today after the supreme council meeting.

He is expected to announce no-contest for the top two posts in Umno and set the date for handing over the leadership reins.

The date is said to be by June 2010, where he would pass over the presidency and prime minister's position to his deputy Najib Abdul Razak.

Reporters are waiting for a press conference after the special briefings to divisional leaders.
