Prove LCCT claim, Khairy tells Wee

Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Rembau) has dared Wee Choo Keong (MDP-Wangsa Maju) to prove that he is connected to the company that built the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang.

Wee, while debating the Ninth Malaysia Plan mid-term review this morning, had alluded to previous remarks by PAS deputy president Husam Musa in parliament that had indirectly connected the company to Khairy.
He quoted Husam as saying - during the debate on the Royal Address at the first sitting - that the company had changed name for reasons that only the government knows.
Responded Khairy: “I dare you to lodge a report to the Anti-Corruption Agency if you have any evidence at all. I can take legal action - your allegations are malicious.”
Wee denied that he had inferred any connection between Khairy and the company, and that he had only quoted from Husam’s speech.
Speaker Pandika Mulia Amin stopped him from continuing.
Khairy then claimed he had seen footage of Wee’s speech in the House and that the accusation was obvious.
The speaker intervened, telling both men to calm down. He suggested that Wee should produce evidence before making allegations.
‘Expand scholarship scheme’
Khairy also touched on quotas for scholarships to non-bumiputeras, saying that the government should expand the current scheme.
He said the Public Service Department now provides 2,000 scholarships, of which 700 go to non-bumiputeras.
“It’s not that I disagree with scholarships being given to non-bumiputeras. I believe that all bright students should be awarded government scholarships,” said Khairy.
“What I am saying is that the 700 scholarships should not taken from the (current scheme, but should come from an expanded scheme).”
Khairy further shrugged off allegations that the New Economic Policy (NEP) is racist in nature.
“I believe that the NEP is spot on in achieving its goals, but perhaps the implementation is a bit flawed,” he said.
He suggested that a congress be held to discuss bumiputera economics, with non-bumiputera participation, “so that the NEP can be given a new perspective”.
