In this present political context, it requires real courage for a judge to stand up and speak out that his boss has asked him to dismiss a high profile case without even hearing the matter.

Justice Muhammad Kamil Awang is one such person, a man of humility and integrity who could not allow and refused to allow his judicial conscience be influenced or tainted.

Justice Muhammad sat at a specially convened election court where there is no right of appeal on the decision from this special court.

Now that the matter has come to light, and eventually the names of the delinquent judge revealed, what is the Attorney General Chamber's office going to do about it? Perhaps it is also important to ask what is the Chief Justice going to do about it .

The delinquent judge in the above case may have retired, but the ramification is still traumatic for they have left behind a legacy of cases decided by him and his fellow judges, that are now doubtful in the minds of the legal fraternity and the public.

Those cases decided by the delinquent judge together with the other judges, now reeks with the smell of corruption and deceit. The pain suffered by the parties victimised by such dishonest decisions, will always remain in their mind.

It up to the judiciary with the help of the Bar Council to now take the gauntlet to flush out all doubtful cases heard by the corrupt judge and fumigate the corridors of justice, not forgetting his chambers.

The cases reported in the law journals will remain as an edifice of shame to the judge concerned and this dark times will well be remembered for many years to come.

It is no easy task for the Chief Justice to restore confidence on the independence judiciary or to bring back the golden days where honour, honesty and integrity is the norm. We now call upon the Chief Justice and to remind him of his resolve, when he took office, to clean up the problems in the judiciary.

Now that this case has come to light, he must act decisively and not be influenced by anyone. Is it now time also for the Anti-Corruption Agency to re-open their files to investigate the allegations made in the Bowman Papers.

Until that matter has been fully explained, it will crop up again and again like the proverbial bad penny.
