In the last two weeks, several heroes have emerged in our country. This is a healthy trend and a comforting sign that there are still men of character and principles in leadership.

In honor, I will mention their names; justice Muhammad Hishamuddin, justice Muhammad Kamil Awang and Raja Ahmad Aminullah. These are men who see their appointments as not made by man but by God. As such they live by their conscience and therefore serve the country well.

This reminds me of a quote from William Wallace from the movie Braveheart and should serve as an inspiration to all who wish to serve God and country without fear or favour.

" Your title gives you claim to the throne of our country, but men don't follow titles, they follow courage. Now our people know you. Noble, and common, they respect you. And if you would just lead them to freedom, they'd follow you."

Men don't follow titles, they follow courage! I call upon all who are in authority to do what is right and just in the sight of God. The three men I mention earlier are excellent examples of men of courage and as a young Malaysian, I will gladly follow them to serve King and Country.

If you are pressured, do the honourable thing. It is better to be unemployed then to sell your soul to the devil as many have already done so. Whether you are in the police, army, judiciary, parliament or other civil service, do the right thing so that you can hold your head high.

Do as the good book says in reference to our duties as mortals, "To do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly before our God". May more heroes arise and etch their names in Malaysian history books.
