Wong Choon Toi 'Wait for gov't to show proof against ISA 4' (June11) must surely be a government appointed apologist and it is people with this attitude who buy the government the time that they have always needed to goad the Malaysian populace into apathy.

This government knows only too well that Malaysians have a very short memory. And Wong wants malaysiakini readers with some easily found logic to recognise him for the reasonable man that he purports to be.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe the 17 protestors in Hong Kong may not all be Malaysians as reported. So what?

And having established himself in our minds as a logical thinking person he then, without any consideration to experience and precedence, confines his request for our patience to the time if and when the government comes out with the proof of its allegations against the four ISA detainees!

Well Mr Wong, maybe you were not around, but we did give the benefit of the doubt and waited for findings and in some cases still waiting for findings.

Just to refer you to a few occasions:

1) Anwar was accused of causing his own black eye by none other than the prime minister who was then the home minister to whom the then IGP, the final convict who did it, reported to. We had to wait more than six months before we knew what really happened.

2) Anwar was accused of sodomy and Dr Mahathir actually went on prime time TV to reveal how Anwar was supposed to have done it. His graphic revelation convinced all of us that the government did have the evidence that damned Anwar as a sodomite gay!

Well, Anwar has been through two trials and we are still waiting for the evidence that will show his homosexual tendencies. In the meantime he is becoming more and more sick because we have all taken the apathetic attitude that the government expects us to take when it insists on denying Anwar surgery, when we can find no law that provides for Anwar to remain in confinement while awaiting the appeal to a judgment.

3) And now Wong is asking for us to be patient... Yes, indeed we are all patients because that is how sick our apathy has become!
