Some 14 years ago my housemate was arrested under the ISA under the infamous Operation Lalang. A couple of years after her release, she passed away of lung failure, leaving behind a grieving husband and a baby barely able to talk yet.

She was just a simple village girl with godly goals in life. She didn't even own a vehicle then let alone anything that is capable of posing any security threat to the country.

Her detention shocked me to the core. Till this day I have not changed my conviction that her arrest was simply a mistake done in haste.

But what legal defence did she have then? Nothing! We all know this aspect of the ISA.

Her detention and her subsequent death were memories I sometimes wish would fade away with time. If she is alive today I believe she would rejoice with me to know the Shah Alam High Court's decision to release the two ISA detainees.

Hurrah to Justice Mohd Hishamudin Mohd Yunus. Your fair-minded historic judgment is the beginning of a healing process to a painful memory.
