It is shameful for Sin Chew Jit Poh that, as a reader of the newspaper for the past 20 years, I now have to rely on Nanyang Siang Pau, China Press, malaysiakini and The Sun, to know what is going on in the MCA takeover of Nanyang and China Press.

In Sin Chew Jit Poh, not a word about the anti-takeover movement has been published or reported. The last one on the issue was a statement by Dr Ling Liong Sik that "it is a normal business transaction".

However, from the other media, I know that a massive anti-MCA-cum-anti-takeover movement is going on. The Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Dong Jiao Zong, Chinese writers, journalists, NGOs, DAP as well as many Chinese civil organisations and even MCA grassroot leaders have all expressed their opposition to the deal. They worry that Ling's faction in MCA is turning the Chinese media into a huge propaganda machinery against the rival factions, opposition and other neutral non-MCA organisations like Suqiu.

It is morally and professionally wrong for Sin Chew Jit Poh to black out in such a blatant fashion, important news, whose value is so close to the hearts and minds of the Chinese community.

Is Sin Chew going to betray the Chinese community for the sake of appeasing Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Dr Ling?

I have stopped buying the daily. I will only resume my support when it corrects its errors, mistakes and moral crime against media freedom. Shame on you, Sin Chew Jit Poh!
