What else can we expect from politicians?
When one leaves such important matters (such as the direction of education) in the hands of politicians, one must not expect the jobs to be professionally done. Politicians are, by definitions, politicians. Nothing more nor less. Big egos, small brains; shoot first, talk later; their own set of rules and our separate set of rules. Are these not their trademarks?
Was there not a suggestion that the thoughts and sayings of our beloved prime minister be made a compulsory subject in schools? God forbid. Or the suggestion that subsidies be given to beruk (monkey) owners? I think this was made by the same one who suggested planting rice on roof tops! Oh dear, we might as well start tiger prawn farms up there, too.
And pray, tell me, does one not remember what they did with our degree programmes? They shortened them by a year, did they not? Now, if they could toy with our university degrees, what is there to stop them from creating havoc with our STPM or SPM exams?
The fellow who messed this all up is now in charge of our country's defence. With him in that portfolio, a friend once remarked that, if tiny Brunei decides - rightly or wrongly - to invade us in the near future, he would not be surprised if we were overrun in a matter of days.
