I wish to respond to Eileen Kong's 'Paper takeover by MCA? Big deal!' (May 23). In her letter she said: "What is wrong with that? Don't DAP, PAS, Keadilan and PRM, too, have their respective Rocket, Harakah, Berita Keadilan and Suara?

"If the opposition parties cannot expand their newspapers, don't blame MCA and sabotage MCA's effort."

Hello? Did the writer just wake up from her sweet 100-year slumber? Did she imply that the opposition cannot expand their newspapers? Hello? Where was she when the Barisan Nasional government (of which MCA is very much a part of) forced Harakah's circulation from eight times a month to only twice a month?

Which planet did she stop over when the licences of Detik and Eksklusif were not renewed? As I recall, several years ago, an application was made to print another daily but somehow (God knows why) the permission was never given.

As for her hard-hearted statement about the relevance of the ISA, well... my religion forbids me to pray that one day the 'honourable' police might come in and take your husband, or son away and you are left in anguish for weeks or months not knowing where they are and whether they are simply alive.

Fate has a way of teaching us a lesson. May that lesson not be too harsh on you.
