Jeffrey ('Do we separate state from religion?' May 22) wrote of his anxiety and quandary over such a global issue. This does not affect only Malaysia; it is everywhere - be it the East or the West.

My only suggestion to this is a chapter by the renowned Islamic scholar DrYusuf al-Qaradawi on the delicate issue of relationships between both Muslims and the non-Muslims.

This is only the icing on the cake. I hope to follow this with another look at "non-Muslim residents of an Islamic State" and "Meaning of friendship with non-Muslims".

I seek not to provide the answers; merely bringing forward a suggestion provided by one whose knowledge on Islam needs no introduction.
