I refer to the letter 'Just let us speak out, Dr M' (May 19) by Wai Yee. Since the writer asked for opinions on whether he/she is right or wrong, I say on the issue raised, the writer is obviously wrong. He/She still has a lot to learn. The fact that he/she is able to write freely to malaysiakini shows that to a large extent there is a freedom of speech and expression in Malaysia.

However, we cannot talk about everything under the sun according to our laws, specifically the Sedition Act. Find out for yourself what the subjects are.

It is obviously not right for the Dr M or for that matter any other leader of a nation to do things based on what people say in the newspaper. A leader should do the right thing, not the popular thing.

Anyway, I wouldn't want a prime minister who sits comfortably in his house and just read newpapers. Would you?
