Reading the jubilant remarks made by Gerakan and MCA on the appointment of a Chinese-speaking adviser, I am inclined to think that they have very low IQs. They also have very short memory spans and I suppose that is the stuff politicians are made of.

During the run-up to the last elections, the Chinese community made a humble plea (the Chinese word is Suqiu) to the prime minister to re-introduce a fairer society. The PM knew very well this was a plea and not a demand. Based upon his assurance that a better and fairer society will be reborn, the Chinese voted overwhelmingly for Barisan Nasional, ensuring him success even though the Malays had turned against him. Then he turned round and likened the actions of the groups making the plea (Suqiu) to those of communists in the past. He twisted everything.

Now he is up to the same old trick of trying to win Chinese support again. Do not forget he has never once apologised to the Chinese groups for wrongly accusing them of behaving like communists. I have always voted for BN because I believed Dr Mahathir Mohamad was an intellectual and a man of vision and deep principles but I find he is just like any other weather-cock politician. I am never going to vote for BN again. We have been tricked too many times.

While we are on the subject, let us remember the poor Indians who have been suffering in silence without real representation. Mahathir should remember his old friend Samy Vellu and appoint an Indian-speaking adviser as well. Do not forget, we also have smart Indians among us who did not get places in the local universities.
