Former Terengganu Menteri Besar Idris Jusoh today resigned as the state's Umno chief. He had been holding the post for four years.

According to Bernama, Idris said he informed Prime Minister and party president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi of his decision when he met the latter today.

idris jusoh pc 250308 04"I have informed the prime minister of my decision to relinquish my post as the Terengganu Umno liaison chairman and the prime minister agreed," said the Jertih assemblyperson.

"I will send my resignation letter tomorrow," he said.

He, however, did not state his reasons for quitting the post.

Terengganu MB Ahmad Said is now widely tipped to take over the position.

Idris was unceremoniously dropped from being the menteri besar after the general election when the Terengganu palace preferred Ahmad.

Although Idris had the support of Abdullah and 22 state assemblypersons, Ahmad was eventually sworn in as the new MB after weeks of uncertainty.

Idris was named MB as well as the state Umno chief in 2004 after wrestling the state back from PAS. He is also an Umno supreme council member.
