I am perplexed by Student's contention that bumiputras will be discriminated in education and in business, should the quota system be discontinued ('No' to end of quota, May 14).

For two generations since the dawn of nationhood, many innocent children born each year are made to bear the brunt of institutionalised discrimination because of their parentage. Regrettably, the writer sees fit to perpetuate racial discrimination, yet see not the desire to alleviate bumiputras from the scourge of dependency.

For not seeing the wood for the trees, the writer, presumably a beneficiary of the system, has dealt a deadly blow to the noblest aim of the quota system, i.e. to raise the intellectual competency of bumiputras.
