Former MCA vice-president Dr Chua Soi Lek today revealed that he had received a ‘report' which he believed contained information on the alleged snoop squad set up to spy on party leaders.

mca snoop team investigation 210508 chua soi lekWhile he could not vouch for the authenticity of the report, Chua said establishing the veracity of the content was now the prerogative of the party's three-member panel probing the existence of the snoop squad.

Chua was among the witnesses that were called for the panel's closed-door hearing today at the party headquarters. He handed the five-page report to the panel during the hearing.

"I have handed over the report to the panel. However, on the details of the report, I would like to keep it secret. If it was revealed, it would be unfair to the panel," he told a press conference after testifying at the panel.

However, Chua revealed that the report dwelled into three main issues:

  • That a person accused of being part of the snoop squad, Tee Aun Chuan, had met top party leaders to discuss the squad's activities in several specific dates,

  • Detailed information on the clout of various factions within the party, and,

  • That Chua should not receive the support of the party for suggesting that "a certain individual" should contest in the general election

According to Chua, he did not know who was behind the report but claimed that it was anonymously posted to his home.

The three-member panel was established soon after former Petaling Jaya Utara MCA division chief Wong Leong claimed of the snoop squad's existence.

During an earlier hearing, Wong had named former MCA member Tee Ann Chuan and top party leaders Liow Tiong Lai and Wee Jack Seng as members of the secret group to snoop on party rivals, allegedly with the full knowledge of the party president.

mca snoop team investigation 210508 lim choon kimAnother witness at the hearing today, former Damansara Utama assemblyperson Lim Choon Kim (right), told reporters that he had informed the panel that Wong was telling the truth.

However, he did not elaborate on this matter.

According to Lim, he had met Tee seven times between November and December last year, allegedly to spread MCA party president Ong Ka Ting and party Youth Chief Liow Tiong Lai's influence among party grassroots in Selangor.

Chua and Lim were among four witnesses scheduled to meet the panel today. The two others are Federal Territories MCA Youth Chief Hang Chin Peng and former Serdang MP Yap Pian Hon.

Yap abstained from the hearing today. Hearing continues next Tuesday.
