I refer to Loyal Malaysian's 'Taken for a ride by powers that be' (May 12). Even though quota is a divisive and racist tool, the non-bumis should make the best of the situation. The closer the quota reflects the population ratio, the fairer it would be. In my opinion, the non-bumiputras should quickly agree and grab the 60:40 or even 70:30 offer, on the condition that:

1) The admission process is transparent to the public;

2) All fields of studies are subject to the same 60:40 split;

3) All scholarships and loans, for local or overseas studies are subject to the same quota; and

4) The hiring of all faculty and administration staff also adheres to the same quota.

For that matter, why not apply the quota transparently to all aspects of society? Government jobs, contracts, housing, allocation of shares, business loans, etc. More people will benefit more rationally.
