English newspapers

The New Straits Times and the Star headlined the Umno lawmakers' pledge of allegiance to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, ignoring Dr Mahathir Mohamad's call to quit the party.

They further reported that Muhkriz Mahathir, the son of Mahathir, will not quit the party, but try to effect change from within.

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian led with Umno MPs staying loyal with the prime minister irregardless of the constant call from it's ex-president Mahathir to quit the party.

Utusan Malaysia also highlighted Muhriz's decision not to follow suit his father to leave the party.

Chinese newspapers

Nanyang Siang Pau led with Muar MP Razali Ibrahim's statement that Umno MPs did not discuss about Mahathir's departure from Umno during the lunch meeting with prime minister yesterday.

Oriental Daily wrote that Umno MPs pledged not to quit the party and will always back the premier.

Sin Chew Daily reported that Mahathir's exit from Umno will not make other members to emulate him.

China Press headlined that 10,000 residents of Sichuan province were drinking polluted water following a fatal earthquake that hit China recently.

They also highlighted that Umno MPs were strongly supporting Abdullah's leadership and they are going to stay put in the party.

Tamil newspapers

All three Tamil dailies - Malaysia Nanban, Tamil Nesan and Makkal Osai - also reported the support given by Umno parliamentarians to Abdullah.

Sin Chew Daily noted that they were looking forward to Taiwan's new president to build brand-new ties between Taiwan and mainland China.

Nanyang Siang Pau wrote that Mahathir's interference in national politics was becoming serious as it will affect the power balance in Umno.

Berita Harian said that Mahathir's sudden departure from Umno will not have an impact on Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Utusan Malaysia agreed with the prime minister's warning not to ignore cyber attacks as it would make a major influence in deteriorating the society.
