The army's elite squad's training techniques came under fire in Parliament today with a PKR member of parliament exposing their shocking training regimen.

saifuddin nasution Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (PKR-Machang) alleged that the Malaysian commando regiment was undertaking very humiliating training techniques to train its commandos.

He told a press conference at the Parliament lobby that he received a two-minute video-clip portraying trainers physically abusing trainees and stepping on their heads to tarnish their dignity.

Saifuddin revealed the clip during the press conference and played its content which showed several men in black overalls blatantly kicking a person in a deserted area.

"When I received the clip, I spoke to several former commandos and they said no such method was used in their module training," he said.

"What's more worrying is the trainers seemed to be enjoying the torture inflicted on the individual.

"Is this incident already made known to the prime minister and what action has been taken?" he asked.

Saifuddin said that he received the video clip last week.

He refused to reveal his source, adding that he was also not sure where and which regiment the elite soldiers portrayed in the video clip came from.

He however added that the clip was taken very recently, based on verification by several former commandos that the uniform worn by the soldiers in the video were the new ones worn by the Malaysian commando regiment.

No answer from Najib

Saifuddin had earlier raised this matter during a parliamentary seating on Monday, to which the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Najib Abdul Razak brushed aside the question.

Instead of answering the question, Najib asked Saifuddin if he had encountered an event like that during his tenure as a political secretary in the Defence Ministry in the 1990s.

"I've never seen anything like this before even when I used to be the political secretary," Saifuddin responded today.

"I have a good reason to believe this is happening. Seeing is believing," he said.

When pointed out that the training methods were necessary to train the military in order to properly equip soldiers with combat techniques, he said "what necessity can there be to employ such humiliating method such as stepping one's head?"

"The ministry has to explain this to the general public because I don't think they will be pleased to see this happening," he added.
