With reference to Sandy's letter, 'We're all Malaysians' (May 8), I, another Umno member, would like to support her stand. A lot of Chinese and Indian students have been deprived of their right to higher education due to this quota. The Malays have been pampered to an extent where it must come to an end.

We must not forget that all of us were born here, and that makes us all citizens. Every race had an equal share in developing the country so the rights of other races besides the bumiputras must also be acknowledged.

With the Malays now entering the corporate world as economists and professionals, I am very sure that the younger generation will be able to compete with the others, where education is concerned.

In fact, if the distinction between bumiputras and non-bumiputras is abolished, it would be better and much more competitive for the Malays as they would realise that it's a jungle out there and not a bed of roses.

Bravo to our Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for his announcement that the quota may be abolished. This is another move to make Malaysia a better place to live in.
