The court of appeal's decision to uphold the conviction and sentence of the ex-Inspector General of Police Abdul Rahim Noor has proven once again that the Malaysian judiciary is on the right track in redeeming itself to the public and the rest of the world.

Being a taxpayer, I felt that at least the honourable judges who sat on Monday were heading in the right direction when they dismissed Rahim's appeal against the two-month jail sentence.

After all it was Rahim who was the IGP then who gave assurances that Anwar Ibrahim was in safe hands after the latter was unceremoniously arrested and whisked to Bukit Aman in September 1998 . After the corruption and sodomy trials of the ex-deputy premier, I lost confidence in the judiciary and every time I drove past the court complex at Jalan Raja I felt disgust and contempt.

However, on Monday, I felt different and even parked during lunch time at Dataran Merdeka to see the grandeur of the Sultan Abdul Samad building and what it really represents.

To those judges who sat on Monday and their brethren who truly administer justice without fear or favour, may God bless all of you. After what all of us have gone through these past few years, at last the rays of hope seem to shine again.
