Three DAP elected representatives were arrested at 11am today after relocating a telecommunications tower in Machap, Malacca.

They were Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Hin, Kesidang assemblyperson Goh Leong San and Bachang state assemblyperson Lim Jak Wong.

Right after giving his statement to the police in Melaka Tengah police station, Sim told Malaysiakini that the removal had been pending for the past six months.

Before the Machap by-election in April last year, the government had promised to relocate the tower.

“But nothing has been done and we have been receiving a lot of complaints from the residents,” Sim said.

The telecommunications tower, which is built in front of a school and a housing area in Kampung Permai (Machap Umboo) has sparked an uproar from the residents as the electro-magnetic wave would give a negative impact on the residents’ health.

Betty Chew, Kota Laksamana assemblyperson said during the arrest, a police officer has allegedly assaulted Lim and he has given a statement regarding the assault.
