Why am I not surprised at Justice Augustine Paul's sweeping and uncalled-for remarks about Suhakam when he rejected the habeas corpus application of the five Keadilan leaders last Wednesday?

After all, this is the same judge who sat at the trial of the former deputy prime minister and convicted him after hearing witnesses who, under oath, had admitted having no qualms lying if directed to do so.

Why am I not surprised that the same prosecutor who had made a reputation for himself by saying "history will judge me" after successfully making some controversial statements and decisions as the government's top legal adviser, was appointed as a federal judge?

Why am I not surprised that politicians from the ruling coalitions who made seditious statements one after another are spared and given wide media coverage while opposition leaders and members are being tormented and arrested for making calls for democratic rights of the rakyat to be respected as ensured by the Federal Constitution?

Because this is how Malaysia Boleh!
