Again we are hearing the same doomsday statements such as "Time is running out. The country is doomed. I hope my warning is conveyed to all Malaysians" from those so-called experts ([#1] We need IMF[/#] , April 23).

Isn't it funny that the writer stressed how much we needed IMF even though Malaysia has done well without their help to the extent that even IMF acknowledged it?

Does the government have many books to hide from the market and taxpayers as claimed by the writer?

It probably has, but to sell these bad assets to foreigners at fire-sale value is not the answer I would like to hear, not when the government has the chance to rehabilitate and correct the situation, which it has done and is doing, I might add.

I hope the government has learnt from it mistakes and will take a more prudent approach in managing its books.

I'm glad that it did not go to the IMF for help in spite of Anwar's recommendation; I shudder to think how things might have turned out two years ago, looking at events in neighbouring countries.

We should not submit to IMF, but even if we get its help, it should be a win-win situation, unlike how it was at the height of the 1997 financial crisis when Malaysia was put in a no-win situation by IMF's 'rescue' package.
