I refer to Liza B's letter [#1]Confused about IIU opening[/#] (April 17). If she had been reading the New Straits Times last weekend or even other newspapers and not just malaysiakini, she would have read that indeed the International Islamic University, Malaysia, was formed in 1984 under the guidance of Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The initial site for IIUM was in PJ and with the new campus in Gombak opened by Mahathir recently. Mahathir is not re-opening IIUM but opening the new campus.

I hope the Malaysian public take more care in interpreting what they read and to please check up with other new sources, too.
