I refer to the Malaysiakini report Najib says it again: I stand by PM.

Najib Razak must be intellectually 'blind' not to be able to see what happened in the four years or so under his present boss, while him being the deputy. In those four years, most of BN election promises were not fulfilled, and his boss was caught a napping while on duty, not once but on many occasions. Just surf the internet by ‘Googling’ ‘sleeping PM’! Those episodes are shocking and embarrassing for Malaysia, as the whole world is privy to this information.

Four years is not a short time in politics and Najib’s boss had wasted his time in office for failing to institute serious reforms to rectify various damages inflicted by his predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad – for example the judiciary, the fight against corruption, national integration, etc. He was perhaps more interested to preserve his 'nice guy' image.

Is Najib telling us Malaysians to endure another four to five years under the same weak, napping PM? Najib must be joking - only this time, more than half of Malaysians are not laughing. Most of us, the rakyat, don’t have the patience to wait for another five years to see real reform by the Pakatan Rakyat.

If the BN is dreaming about ruling again at the federal level in 2012, then they must immediately install a new prime minister before long, otherwise the Pakatan Rakyat may engineer some mass defection of BN MP’s to their (PR) side to form a new government.

We hear that talks have been going on between the PR’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and BN MPs in Sabah and Sarawak on possible crossovers. If the BN government is too slow in enacting a law banning defections, it may lose power completely and absolutely.

If Umno is serious about internal reform, then their members must do something drastic between now and December this year, and that is to nominate a formidable challenger to Pak Lah in sufficient number of divisions.

Otherwise, we are stuck with weak leadership for the next four years - unless, of course, the Pakatan Rakyat manages to obtain sufficient crossovers from BN MPs before December. Time is running out on both sides - but I am sure Anwar Ibrahim, the PR presumptive chairman, is not sitting idle watching the clock tick away. So, Umno and BN better act fast.
