Another earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was reported to have jolted Simeuleu district town of Sinabang in Aceh at 3.29am today after the similar occurrence yesterday, Antara news agency reported.

According to Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) report, the epicenter of the quake was located at 2.90 degrees northern latitude and 95.29 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of one kilometer under the sea, or some 127 kilometres northwest of Sinabang.

But there was no immediate report of casualties or damages in this morning’s earthquake, Bernama reported.

Tectonic earthquake

At noon yesterday, an earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale shook Sinabang town in Simeulue district, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province, BMG reported.

The quake’s epicenter was located at 2.56 degrees northern latitude and 95.85 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 30km below sea level, around 57km northwest of Sinabang.

And at 7:27am yesterday, a tectonic earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook western coastal areas of Aceh Province.

Last March 30 and 31, 2008, Aceh was hit by two consecutive earthquakes measuring 5.0 and 6.2 on the Richter scale respectively.

The earthquakes did not trigger any subsequent tsunami.
