Mustapha Mohamad, the Umno information chief, clearly does not know what he is talking about ([#1]Don't face the 'same fate' as in Singapore, Malays warned[/#], April 8).

Singapore Malays would do a lot better with affirmative action, of course. As it is, without affirmative action, the struggle for Singapore Malays have been very much harder as a minority.

Malaysian Malays are not a minority in Malaysia. I suggest let us not get generic again on ethnic issues across borders. It is such a silly argument to say that voting for the opposition would make Malays in Malaysia suffer the same fate. That is equating the opposition with the PAP government.

In fact PAP and Umno have a lot in common. What PAP shares with Umno is authoritarianism. If PAP is authoritarian in not looking after minority rights, then Umno has abused the affirmative action programme for some Malays in the last decade or so.
