Since Nov 25, the day which made all Indians feel some glimmer of hope for their homeland, I've been following closely all media reports - TV news, foreign news, people's comments, letters to editors, interviews, video clips, etc.

At no time could I find any fault or mistake in the way Hindraf acted on Nov 25. Put simply, Indians are not happy over many issues. When we go to the MIC, it either takes our complaints and does nothing about them or simply ignores our complaints altogether .

The government does the same when we go to it. So what is the solution to fix the Indians’ problem in our homeland? A group like Hindraf. So how can it be a wrongful to participate in the Nov 25 rally or to form a group like Hindraf in the first place?

Malaysian politicians and BN leaders are very smart. Their goal is to make money for themselves and their family members. They do it by:

  • Getting government contracts, tenders, projects, etc. and passing them on to relatives, friends and cronies.

  • Taking bribes for government contracts and criminals to enrich themselves further, but escape prosecution using power and status.

  • Mismanaging taxpayers’ hard-earned money to benefit themselves and their families.

To achieve all the above, they have to be in power. All this will be impossible once they are out of their seats. So, to maintain their seats, they have to win the election. How to win the election without majority support? They need the Malays' support.

The normal perception and well-known matter is that our government is always supporting only the Malays, giving more to Malays, trying to bring up the Malays' status in this land, and pushing hard to make all Malays rich. Well, this may apply only to a small group of Malays who are in government departments and take every opportunity to push the Malays. The main objective of Umno and the BN leaders is not this.

Of course, as you and I can see, the government always favors Malays in every aspect - from education to jobs to business opportunities. The list goes on. But this support is just a gimmick to win their hearts and support. It is nothing more than that. In other words, our leaders are not honest in helping the Malays. All these are nothing but wayang.

When one deeply studies and listens to the grouses of many Malays, one has a different picture. From there you can make up what it is that our government and the BN leaders are up to.

Umno needs Malays' support to earn every single vote. So only for this reason does it play political games in the name of race and religion. Umno leaders seem to talk about unity among their race and, in Umno general assemblies, encourage each other to bring up people of their race and religion. But, backstage, they make deals with non-Malay tycoons and cronies to make extra millions for themselves and their families.

If Umno and Malay leaders are truly honest in saying they want to bring up the Malays' standard of living then, after 50 years of independence, we should not see any poor Malays. But is this the case? Day after day, we see a lot of poor Malays living in poverty in villages - a situation similar to poor Indians in estates.

Groups like Bersih, and parties like PKR, are other pieces of proof that Malays are also not happy with the government's administration. I have a lot of Malay friends who earn less then RM1,000 a month and, despite having bumiputera status, they still find it hard to earn government contracts and tenders, even if they have all the necessary skills and qualifications.

In a way, as an Indian, I don't feel the pain much, since I am used to the way I am treated, ie, as a third-class citizen. But how about my Malay friends who, despite having bumiputera status and all the entitlements, privileges and opportunities that are supposed to come with it, still don't get anything from the government except a five percent discount when they purchase a house?

Even when their children do well in their studies, they are still unable get allocation in the local university, let alone overseas universities. Of course, all privileges, helps, benefits, etc. go to the Malays. But for which group of Malays? It is true that all help goes to the Malays but NOT all Malays get the help.

So I feel that we the rakyat, regardless of race and religion, must join hands and unite ourselves to get rid off the administration of the BN leaders who are nothing but selfish, poisonous and arrogant.

I want to see a government that honestly helps the poor, regardless of race and religion. One country for all citizens. Everyone is equal. All humans have the right to live comfortably. We can make the difference. We are the rakyat. Let's show our power on March 8.
