Taib's son in three-cornered fight

Making his electoral debut in the constituency represented by his father for nearly four decades, Sulaiman is facing PKR's Hussin Abang Apok and an Independent Awang Bakar Awang Daud.

Sulaiman is a former RHB and CMS Bhd chairperson.

He was recently elected his father’s Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth vice head.

Meanwhile, former Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) chief Nicholas Bawin is standing as an Indepenedent against the BN-PRS' William Nyalau Badak, a retired government officer, in the predominantly-Iban parliamentary constituency of Lubok Antu.

Lubok Antu was represented for five terms until recently by BN-PRS' Jawah Gerang, who was dropped from the BN list.

Bawin is a respected grassroots leaders of the Iban community. He served at one time as deputy chairperson of the Majlis Adat Istiadat, a state government agency and is also pro-tem chairperson of the yet-to-be-registered Malaysian Dayak Congress.

State Reform Party (Star) chief Dr Patau Rubis (left) is challenging the incumbent in Mas Gading, Tiki Lafe, a deputy minister, in a four-cornered fight on a Sarawak National Party (Snap) ticket.

The other two contestants are Independents.

Meanwhile, state DAP chief Wong Ho Leng, the state assemblyperson for Bukit Assek, is facing the BN-Supp's incumbent in Sibu Robert Lau Hoi Chiew (right), the deputy minister of housing and local government, in a three-cornered fight. The third candidate is PKR's Lim Chin Chung.

In Lanang, the BN-Supp's incumbent Tiong Thai King is involved in a straight fight with DAP's David Wong Kee Wong.

In another Chinese-majority seat of Sarikei, represented previously by Law Hieng Ding, Supp deputy president and former federal minister, the BN-Supp candidate is Ding Kuong Hiing, a political secretary to the chief minister.

Ding is involved in a five-cornered fight with DAP's Dr Wong Hua See and three Independents - Lau Kian Chai, Ngu Tieng Hai and Kung Chin Chin.
