4.50pm: BN picked up an additional parliament seat when Joseph Kurup won Pensiangan in Sabah unopposed, resulting in the ruling coalition having seven parliament seats in the bag.

1.10pm: Latest tally - BN has won unopposed six parliament seats and two state seats while PAS has won one state seat.

12.35pm: The opposition has picked up one state seat in Kelantan unopposed. PAS' woman candidate Wan Ubaidah Omar scored a walkover in Kijang. Her opponent Mustopha Ahmad had been declared a bankrupt and was automatically disqualified as a candidate.

12.25pm: The Kuala Terengganu parliament seat is to face a three-cornered fight among incumbent Razali Ismail (BN-Umno), PAS' Mat Sabu and 89-year-old grandmother Maimun Yusuf, who is running as an Independent candidate.

12.02pm: In Sabah, BN has won one parliament and one state seat unopposed - Abdul Ghapur Salleh (Kalabakan - parliament) and Ramlee Marbahan (Bugaya Sabah - state). BN has so far won six parliament seats and two state seats.

11.45am: BN's Azalina Othman is the sole candidate for her Pengerang seat in Johor when no opponent showed up. This is the second time she managed to win without a fight. She scored a walkover in the 2004 elections.

10.55am: BN wins its first seat in Selangor. Umno's Abdul Rahman Palil wins the Sementa state seat since his PKR opponent failed to turn up.

10.45am: Four BN candidates won unopposed in Sarawak - PBB's Alexander Nanta Tinggi (Kapit) and Norah Abdul Rahman Yakub (Tanjung Manis), and PRS' Joseph Entulu (Selangau) and Aaron Dagang (Kanowit).

10.24am: Over in Sarawak, there will be a straight fight for Bandar Kuching between incumbent Chong Chieng Jin (DAP) and BN's Alan Sim (BN-SUPP). PKR has earlier threatened to force a three-cornered contest, but party's state chief Dominique Ng has decided to stay out.

However, Stampin will see a three-cornered fight between incumbent Yong Khoon Seng (BN-SUPP), Voon Lee Shan (DAP) and See Chee How (PKR).

10.15am: It’s a three-cornered fight at Kelana Jaya. Apart from the known two candidates - PKR’s Gwo-Burne Loh and MCA’s Lee Hwa Beng - a well-known independent candidate Billi Lim Peng Soon. Previously he has contested in Bukit Bintang.

10.10am: PKR de facto Anwar Ibrahim was at Lembah Pantai to support his daughter Nurul Izzah. He said that he would campaign to ensure his daughter’s victory.

10am: Nomination closes. There is an one-hour period where objections could be lodged against the respective candidates. Election Commission officers will make the final confirmation on the contestants at 11am.

9.55am: In Ipoh Timur, DAP's Lim Kit Siang and his contender MCA's Liew Mun Hon have filed their nomination papers.

9.50am: In Subang, both candidates MIC's S Murugesan and PKR's R Sivarasa are inside the nomination centre to submit their papers.

9.45am: In Rembau, Umni Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin, making his debut, and his challenger PKR’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin are waiting to file their papers.

9.40am: Some 300 BN supporters have accompanied the Kepong candidate Lau Hoi Keong to the nomination centre. There was also a lion dance troupe. Incumbent DAP's Dr Tan Seng Giaw, with his supporters are also there. The two candidates are waiting to file their nominations.

9.35am: Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is in the process of filing his nomination paper in Pekan.

9.29am: A three-cornered fight is also taking shape in Sungai Siput. Independent candidate Nor Rizan Oon has just filed his nomination paper. Incumbent S Samy Vellu and PSM’s Dr D Jeyakumar (standing under the PKR ticket) are the two other candidates. Unlike previous elections, there appeared to be a smaller number of supporters turning up for Samy Vellu.

9.27am: An Independent candidate has filed his papers for the Lembah Pantai parliament seat. N Periasamy, from Kelantan, claims to be a Hindraf sympathiser. He is also the former MIC deputy chairperson of Bukit Bintang.

9.22am: In Kepala Batas, Abdullah is in the process of filing his form. He will face PAS' Subri Mat Arshad in a straight fight as there is no candidate from students' party PMN.

9.20am: Over at Batu, in Kuala Lumpur, BN’s debutant Lim Si Pin was accompanied by his father Lim Keng Yeik to file the nomination papers.

9.20am: In Bukit Bintang, DAP's Fong has finished submitting his papers. His rival MCA's Lim is now submitting his nomination papers.

taiping nomination 2402089.05am: In Taiping, incumbent M Kayveas and DAP’s Nga Kor Ming have gone in to file their nominations.

In all the 222 nomination centres around the country, candidates and their supporters have started gathering, waiting for the centres to be opened for them to file their papers.

Barisan Nasional chairperson Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s supporters - numbering some 500 - are waiting for him to arrive at the Dewan Milenium nomination centre in Kepala Batas, Penang. Abdullah is expected to face PAS’ Subri Mat Arshad and a candidate representing the still unregistered students’ party.

Here in Kuala Lumpur, at the nomination centre for the Bukit Bintang seat, MCA was the first to arrive at the nomination centre in Victoria Institute. Their candidate Dr Lee Chong Meng has been waiting along with his supporters at the gates since 8.20am for the centre to open. He will be challenging DAP’s incumbent Fung Kui Lun. About 150 DAP supporters are also there.

Fong arrived at 9am sharp and is now submitting his nomination papers.

Similarly supporters of both Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (incumbent BN candidate) and her challenger Nurul Izzah Anwar have also started mingling around the Bangsar Sports Complex, waiting for the respective candidates to file in their papers for the Lembah Pantai seat.

Nurul Izzah is current submitting her nomination papers.

In Klang, some 200 BN supporters gathered at the Padang Chetty this morning and have started marching to the nomination centre at Dewan Hamzah in Klang. The centre will be see nominations filed for the Klang Parliament seat as well as for the Pelabuhan Klang, Pandamaran and Kota Alam Shah state seats.

Detained Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leader M Manoharan's wife S Pushpaleela is now submitting the nomination papers on behalf of her husband.

Manoharan is contesting the Kota Alam Shah seat under a DAP ticket against incumbent Ching Su Cheng (Gerakan).
