BN welcomes Nalla’s support

Barisan Nasional welcomes the support of Malaysian Indian United Party (MIUP) led by KS Nallakaruppan for the coalition in the general election.

BN secretary-general Radzi Sheikh Ahmad said MIUP recently wrote to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is BN chairman, pledging its support for the ruling party.

MUIP, with 25,000 members, was registered last September after Nallakaruppan left PKR last May.

Four new MCA faces for Penang state

MCA announced four new faces to contest in state seats in the general election, including its state treasurer, Loh Nam Hooi, in Seri Delima in the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency.

Loh is replacing incumbent Koay Kar Huah who moves to the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat, said state MCA deputy chairman Lau Chiek Tuan today.

The other three new faces listed are Seberang Perai municipal councillor Teh Lay Cheng (Sungai Puyu), Penang municipal councillor Tan Yoke Cheng (Air Puteh) and Koh Wan Leong (Paya Terubong).

Radzi to remain in Kangar

Home Affairs Minister Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad is set to defend his Kangar parliamentary seat in the general election said a reliable source from Perlis Umno today.

The source also named Umno candidates for four of the five state seats within the Kangar parliamentary constituency; they are Md Isa Sabu for Bintong, Jamil Saad for Sena, Mat Hassan for Kuala Perlis and Ahmad Bakri Datuk Ali for Kayang.

Kwang Chye’s brother for Tanjung Bunga state

Gerakan president Dr Koh Tsu Koon will be replaced by lawyer Chia Loong Thye in the Tanjung Bunga state seat in the upcoming general election.

Chia, 50, the younger brother of Gerakan’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye, is the sole new face contesting under the party banner in the state seat, Koh said today.

Dompok goes back to his roots

United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) president Bernard Dompok will contest in his home ground Penampang parliamentary seat after two terms in the Ranau parliamentary seat.

“I’ve been in Ranau for the last two terms and would like to thank the people there. It is time to give up (the Ranau seat) and give it back to another son of Ranau,” said Dompok.

Dompok will make way for party deputy president Siringan Gubat to contest in the Ranau seat.

Kurup moves to Pensiangan parliamentary seat

United Sabah People’s Party (PBRS) president Joseph Kurup will be contesting for the Pensiangan parliamentary seat after being an assemblyperson for Sook for several terms.

He replaces the incumbent, party secretary-general Bernard Maraat, who has been dropped from the race. PBRS deputy president Elron Alfred Angin, meanwhile, is going for the Sook state seat.
