Khir Toyo: Candidate with personality only, please
Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo is set to field charismatic candidates for seats in the state in order to meet the expectations of voters in the Klang Valley who favour personality more than the party when voting.
According to political observers, the move is to ensure victory in the coming election.
Long makes way for new face in Stulang state seat
Incumbent Stulang State Assemblyman Freddie Long, who has been a Johor state elected representative for five terms since 1986, said he was making way for a new face in the March 8 general election.
He made the announcement yesterday in a voice choked with emotion. Long, 64, told reporters it was time for him to retire after having served as state assemblyman for 22 years.
In the last general election, in 2004, Long beat Norman Fernandez of the DAP in Stulang, winning by a 16,745-vote majority.
Nik Aziz’s ‘orang utan’ insult irks Kelantanese
The Kelantanese are dismayed with Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat for insulting Umno members calling them ‘Orang Utan’.
Many were disappointed that the PAS leader, fondly referred to as 'tok guru' by his supporters, had stooped to hurling such remarks at his political foes especially since he is the party’s spiritual leader.

Deputy Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin today said that PAS and DAP are merely ‘yes men’ to de facto PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim without knowing the his personal agenda to destroy the country’s economy.
He opined that the opposition’s promises to make the country a welfare state sounds attractive but in reality it would increase the national debt to 12 per cent or a 12 per cent deficit compared to the Gross Domestic Product.
According to him, the execution of such promises will be cause Malaysia to be poor like Africa.
“The opposition promises sound lovely to hear. Why are they making irresponsible promises? This is because I know Anwar is the culprit behind it who is backed up by the United States.
"They want to make Malaysia a welfare state to increase our debt and in the end, we would need to borrow money from the US and the World Bank.
"If the opposition takes over the country, Malaysia will be indebted to US and are obligated to follow what that large country say,” he said.

Po Kuan will not reconsider
Incumbent Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan apologised to her supporters that she will not be able to reconsider her decision to opt out of contesting in the elections.

Dear friends, I am sorry.
I am unable to answer all your calls, reply your messages, emails and comments. I do appreciate your views, criticisms, supports and encouragement. It was a tough decision. I am unable to reconsider my decision of not to contest in this coming 12th General Election. I am sorry if I have disappointed you. I do hope you all will try to understand.
Let us now move ahead and play our respective roles to bring a better Malaysia for all Malaysians and show the people’s power to Barisan Nasional.
Langkawi Umno division divided over Mukhriz
According to Umno blogger BigDogDotCom, Mukhriz Mahathir was not unilaterally rejected by the Langkawi Umno Division.
It was reported that the Langkawi Umno division secretary Mohd Saiful Mustafa said the division had objected to the possibility of Umno Youth executive council member Mukhriz from contesting in Langkawi because he was an outsider, adding that "the division and a majority of people in Langkawi" rejected Mukhriz willingness to contest in the area.
BigDog said Saiful had failed to get a majority of the Langkawi Umno division heads to support the protest petition against Kedah Umno liaison’s decision to nominate Mukhriz as a candidate.
The blogger wrote that Langkawi people are still grateful towards Mukhriz’s father, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad for extensively developing the island.
He added that several Langkawi Umno division excos, who were present at the meeting last week and now detest Saiful’s unilateral statement to Bernama yesterday, will be holding a media conference this morning in Kuah.
