I refer to the letter Gaza: Malaysian condemnation unjustified.

I read the above letter with interest. For an Israeli to take exception to our prime minister’s response is not that surprising. I am no supporter of the PM. But I find the reasons for the writer’s protest debatable.

If the Western press mentioned a blockade, then ordinary world citizens like me, who care about the oppressed everywhere, must believe that is what is actually happening.

Moreover, small though our country may be, I trust that the Malaysian PM’s sources of information are reliable. I have no solution to offer, but I find it reprehensible that ordinary Palestinians - including children and the elderly - are collectively punished for what the militants are doing.

Hamas is a terror organisation but, the point is, they have been democratically elected. You can't only choose parties that will bow to your demands and insist that Hamas be thrown out.

But yes, I agree with the writer in that my PM - instrumental in oppressing the opposition here - is really not qualified to issue his recent condemnation of the Gaza blockade.
