I refer to the statement by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad which was published in most newspapers recently, calling for the nation's silent majority to express themselves against the reformasi movement's alleged plan to hold street demonstrations. I felt like laughing out loud when I read that.

How does the prime minister know that the silent majority is on his side? How are the people to express themselves without going to the streets to make their views known to the government?

The majority of the people are not members of Parliament or supreme council members of Umno or other Barisan Nasional parties. If they write to the newspapers the letters will just be ignored, especially if they are on the side of reformasi.

The newspapers, especially Utusan Malaysia again, have concocted stories against Keadilan in order to mislead the people. No person of sound mind would readily admit to wanting to throw off the government by force if he had really intended to do it, as had been alleged of Keadilan Youth chief Mohd Ezam Mohd Noor who was detained by the police in connection with a statement he purportedly made in Mingguan Malaysia .
