Sam Chan's fear of having other parties rule this country is easily understandable ([#1]People Power: Can we pay the price?/#] Feb 1). The reasons given - grateful for our daily bread and butter plus the super development brought by Umno/BN for the past decades - have always been classic replies for the risk-fearing group of Malaysians. The writer's description of himself as a man who has lived in best of both worlds made me envy him a lot.

Though he professed to have seen much and travelled far, the writer's thoughts and scepticism with regard to Islam and Islamisation are a little shocking. Being a non-Muslim on a land that declares Islam as the official religion, I recommend that you try to understand us Muslims better.

Does the writer know or has he ever heard of people like Raul Gonzalez or Gaizka Mendieta? They are Spanish footballers who are very much Spanish in their culture and are Christians too. There are millions of people like them in Spain.

Once upon a time, Islam ruled Spain for 700 years, which should be abundant enough to eradicate all the Spanish and Christian identities. If it were so, chances are that we would never hear of a footballer named Raul Gonzalez who missed a last-minute penalty during the Euro 2000 knock-out stage.

But did we? Yes. So please try to put this observation in our own context.
