Selangor PAS Youth has urged Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming to retract and apologise over his remark during a DAP event, in which the latter had used the word zakat to refer to its youth wing’s financial situation.
“Using the word zakat to ridicule or political tool is an irresponsible act.
“And I must stress that the word cannot and should not be used to compare positions of any political parties.
“The DAP’s actions are regrettable, as if they don’t understand Muslims sensitivities,” Selangor PAS Youth chief Mohamed Sukri Omar said in a statement today.
Three days ago, Nga, who is also DAP parliamentary chief whip, said he is contributing his one month’s MP salary to the party’s youth wing.
He stated the DAP youth wing is the party’s “poorest wing” and even deserved to receive zakat.
“The wing is poor that they are eligible to receive zakat,” Nga was reported as saying during the party’s annual convention.
On that note, Sukri urged DAP leaders to be mindful of Muslim sensitivities so as to not create misunderstanding among the rakyat.
“And we hope there is no repeat of this as it may affect harmony and national unity,” he added.
