Sacked Bersatu leader Wan Saiful Wan Jan has retracted an appeal against his dismissal, saying the party no longer has a future.

In a statement, the Tasek Gelugor MP said his case shows the hypocrisy of Muhyiddin Yassin and the Bersatu president’s loyalists, as they are doing the same thing that got him sacked.

According to Wan Saiful, among the accusations thrown at him was that he had worked to establish a Perikatan Nasional executive council and later, a presidential council within the coalition.

“Muhyiddin is doing the same thing now. This was what he wrote in his letters to the presidents of PN component parties.

“This is the hypocrisy of Muhyiddin and his loyalists,” he said on Facebook.

Pointing finger at Azmin

According to a copy of Wan Saiful’s letter to the Bersatu appeals board dated yesterday, the lawmaker believed the party had strayed from its original path.

He blamed Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali and Muhyiddin for the problem.

“I am of the view that Bersatu no longer has a future because Muhyiddin, as the party president, has allowed himself to be influenced and controlled by Azmin.

“This has caused Bersatu to no longer fight for the rakyat’s agenda but instead fight for personal interests.

“Thus, I hereby retract my appeal with immediate effect,” Wan Saiful stated.

Similarly, Bersatu supreme council member Saifuddin Abdullah, who was sacked Jan 6, retracted his appeal in a letter dated today.

Saifuddin had ruffled feathers after publicly urging Muhyiddin to step down as Bersatu president. He had also called for the resignation of other senior leaders such Azmin.

‘Good riddance’

In an immediate response, Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz welcomed Wan Saiful’s announcement.

He said the lawmaker should have left earlier instead of “destroying the party” from the inside.

“Alhamdulillah, this is for the best. He should have exited the party a long time ago when he could not accept the resolutions of Bersatu’s annual general meetings in 2024 and 2025, and when he started looking down on his party.

“It was improper for him to damage the party and sow hatred just because he could not agree,” Tun Faisal said.

Wan Saiful was dismissed by the party’s disciplinary council last year after it found the former Bersatu supreme council member guilty of violating the party’s constitution and code of ethics and conduct.

Wan Saiful later revealed that the action taken against him was based on several complaints, including an allegation that he was pushing to establish a new PN executive council.

MP in crosshairs after Hamzah meet

Meanwhile, Bersatu’s Ketereh MP Khlir Nor is also expected to face disciplinary action after he attended a meeting organised by sacked Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

This was despite Azmin’s warning against party members associating with those who have been dismissed.

Kelantan Bersatu chairperson Kamarudin Nor reportedly said Khlir should expect to face consequences for his action.

“Punishment for such an offence by any party member or lawmaker is under the authority of the central leadership.

“Action will be taken by the central leadership, as Khlir himself took that risk. I don’t know what kind of action the leadership will take after its warning was ignored.

“Khlir has been on the radar of not only the state party leadership, but also the central party leadership. He should expect to face action,” Kamarudin said, as reported by Berita Harian.
