Budi95: Most Malaysians use less than 200 litres a month, says PM
PARLIAMENT | Most Malaysians are using less than two-thirds of their 300 litres per month of Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) fuel subsidy, according to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking in Dewan Rakyat, Anwar, who is also the finance minister, revealed the average usage of Budi95 is 100 litres a month since it was implemented in September.
“Current usage is around an average of 100 litres, even though it can go up to 300. And 90 percent are using no more than 200 litres per month.
“During (previous) debates, some claimed the quota was insufficient, (but) that is not the case in reality.
“This is based on implementation,” he said during an oral question-and-answer session this morning.

Anwar was responding to a question posed by Fong Kui Lun (Harapan-Bukit Bintang), who wanted to know how much the government has managed to save from its implementation of the targeted fuel subsidy programme.
Smooth operation
The prime minister added that Budi95 was seeing an average of 3.1 million users daily.
Despite this, he said the subsidy system - which restricts subsidised RON95 petrol to MyKad holders with a driving licence - has been operating smoothly.
“So far, we expect the targeted subsidy for RON95 would save the country up to RM2.5 billion this year,” Anwar said, while commending civil servants involved and law enforcers who played important roles in preventing leakages in government subsidies.
Anwar also praised the patriotism shown by Malaysians who have been active in exposing abuse of subsidised fuel by foreigners or foreign-registered vehicles.
During the early stages of Budi95 implementation, Putrajaya had received criticisms and pushback from certain quarters who argued that the 300-litre quota would not be enough for monthly use.
