A Bersatu supreme council member has urged the party’s disciplinary board to probe allegations against deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, accused of backing actions critical of president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Kuala Selangor Bersatu division chief Harrison Hassan, in a statement, said the party is not a platform for dirty political games or personal agendas disguised behind sarcasm and ridicule.

“The actions and conduct of certain Bersatu leaders of late, which display elements of criticism and open insults against the party’s leadership, constitute a rude, irresponsible act that clearly challenges party discipline.

“Such actions are entirely unacceptable in a political party founded on discipline and loyalty.

“More worrying are the increasingly strong allegations that Hamzah (above) has not merely remained silent, but is claimed to be the mastermind behind such actions,” Harrison alleged.

Malaysiakini has reached out to the opposition leader, who is currently abroad, for comment.

Previously, within Bersatu’s supreme council, Libaran Bersatu chief Yunus Nurdin echoed calls for Muhyiddin to resign following a purported dispute with PAS over Perikatan Nasional’s future leadership.

Yunus also voiced direct support for Hamzah to temporarily take over Muhyiddin’s position within the party.

Political arrogance

Commenting further, Harrison said such actions do not merely reflect political arrogance but amount to an open act of defiance against legitimate leadership.

“If it is true that Hamzah is directly or indirectly involved as the architect of these actions, then it constitutes a serious violation of the Bersatu constitution and leadership ethics.

“The party cannot compromise with elements of internal sabotage that damage the stability and future of its struggle,” Harrison stressed.

In calling for a disciplinary proceeding against Hamzah, Harrison said action should also be taken if the allegations were found to be true.

“No one, regardless of how high their position, can be placed above the party and its president,” he stressed.

Since Bersatu’s annual general assembly last year, where Hamzah openly declared that he is no traitor to Muhyiddin, the Larut MP has yet to publicly address allegations that he backed the leaders and internal manoeuvrings that led to sackings and suspensions of party MPs and division leaders.
